According to the current economic environment, it is projected that unemployment rate will subside by approximately 7.5% by the end of this year. However, that does not mean that the job cuts and layoffs will not be experienced. Most companies use this strategy to reduce their operating costs.

1. Do everything on time

All managers can attest to the fact that the most irritating thing is managing employees who never get to the office or complete tasks on time. Hence, it is highly recommendable to wake up early and arrive at your workplace in time. One of the sure ways of doing this is by rescheduling your daily plan in order to avoid various traffic related problems such as traffic snarl ups and accidents.

2. Assist your boss

It goes without saying that most bosses are bombarded with very many tasks that have to be completed within the set deadlines. It is a good idea to assist your boss complete some of the tasks especially if you have the required skills and expertise.

However, be vigilant not to come off as pandering your manager as this may have a negative impact on your profession hence do not over overdo it. Also, it is wise to help your team members to complete their tasks in order to improve your image.

This is one of the core attributes that differentiates between robust employees and their counterparts. Maintain the highest level of professionalism when carrying out your obligations. Be polite, honest and transparent when dealing with your coworkers and clients. Note that some of the clients may be requested to review the quality of your service by the management team.

Despite the fact that taking on extra tasks or projects can reduce your chances of being laid off, there is need to stick to the basics. This will greatly help you to complete assignments and projects in time before embarking on additional projects. More often than not, employees that tend to go overboard in order to impress their employees end up failing to meet their boss’s expectations. Bottom line; only take additional projects or assignments that you are sure you can handle well.

5. Never burn your bridges

This is a very common quote that cuts across all fields of expertise. First, it is advisable to try and avoid doing things that can predispose you to job layoffs. Nevertheless, if you happen to lose your job, be respectful and diligent towards your former employer. This is based on the fact that most employers carry out an intensive background review of all job applicants before hiring one. Actually most of them will look at your job history. This may include interviewing your former boss. Woe onto you if you disrespected him or her when packing off.

6. Be ready to sacrifice your time for the organization

At times, you will be required to work past the normal working hours in order to meet deadlines and enhance the reputation and credibility of the organization or business. Research studies shows that employees that are always ready to work extra hours are less susceptible to layoff as compared to their coworkers that only work for six or five hours a day. Hence in order to avoid being unemployment, be ready to make sacrifices if need be.

7. Network and outsource

These are the two most powerful ways of expanding your market base and job competitiveness. One of the sure ways of networking and outsourcing is by attending conferences, seminars and other events that are related to your work. Social events can also help you connect with your target customers especially if you are a marketer.

8. Seek additional skills

Nowadays, there are so many learning facilities that offer part-time or evening classes to scholars that are employed. An extra set of skills and certification papers will surely hone your skills and help you scale up to the top level of management. Only enroll in learning facilities that are legally accredited in order to avoid wasting your hard earned money on low quality services.
